Game of the Month: December Submissions Thread

$

0

Hello again everyone!

Once again there was a lot of great submissions last month and you should expect for the winner to be announced later this week!

Here's a few reminders again about how the Game of the Month contest works:

I will open a “sticky” forum thread for submissions that will be closed at the end of Monday, December 22nd. After the thread is closed we (the GameSalad team) will choose our favorite submission and announce the winner during the following month!

We will contact the winner via email soon after the thread is closed. Each winner will be asked to complete a Developer questionnaire and I will use this information to create a blog post that promotes your awesomeness!

We will feature the Game of the Month in dedicated Forum, Facebook, Twitter, and GameSalad.com blog posts!

The Ground Rules:

Submission:

*Your game must be complete and published to the appstore or GS arcade! (We have to be able to play it to know if it is worthy of winning!)

*Just to be clear, this is not a post to simply "announce" an upcoming game.

*Please limit your entries to 1 app per person.

*Apps must be posted within the sticky thread in order for it to be considered.

*You can resubmit your app if you submitted it last month and didn't win. (You can also resubmit an app that's been entered in more than one GOTM so long as it has had a significant update).

*Please include a Youtube gameplay/trailer video with your submission if possible.

*We also prefer that the game was published in 2014 or late 2013 (November or December).

Contacting the Winner: In order to be featured, winners will have one week to submit answers to a questionnaire (for me to create a sweet blog post about you).

Once again, let the submissions begin and best of luck to all who enter!

Features

  • New in this version is account validation on Creator start. A valid account is one that was created through the GameSalad website, and has completed email validation. If you are having trouble logging into Creator, please be sure you have email validated your account. If you have not, reset your password, and it should validate your email that way. Validating your GameSalad account on start is necessary to access the full suite of features associated with your account permissions. Once you log into Creator using your GameSalad account credentials, you will stay logged in on that machine until you manually log out, so no need to do it every time. Once you have logged into Creator and your account has been validated, you may use Creator offline for up to 3 days before needing to log in again.

Fixes

  • No known fixes

Known Issues

  • Clicking "Forgot password" from the Creator Dashboard takes the user to a dead link

Please refer to other resources for assistance, like the GameSalad Forums and the Tutorials pages, prior to submitting a ticket to help minimize creation of a backlog.

We will resume regular business hours starting 5 Jan 2015. Please anticipate a delay in responding to support requests submitted during this time while we catch up.

UPDATE

Given the issues brought to our attention with some of the entries, we investigated a number of the entries and disqualified several games, including two games that had been winners of the sweepstakes drawing.

Those prizes were forfeited and those prizes were re-awarded based on a random drawing of the remaining eligible entries. The new winners have been contacted and the results blog has been updated.

For the Best of Show awards, Winter Has Come moves into 2nd, and the previous 4th place game, Xmas Presents From Santa, moves into 3rd place.

Thank you for your patience during this process, and special shout out to @Armelline once again for helping track down these entries.

Release Candidate 0.12.8

Fixes:

  • Fixed issue with signing Mac Desktop apps.
  • Fixed error:null crash on Android. Android IAP now ignores blank lines when requesting purchase data.
  • Fixed Android apps not saving tables properly
  • Fixed table corruption when exiting and reentering a game on Android
  • Fixed Android apps resetting after waking the device up
  • Fixed iOS apps returning a warning about a missing receipt whenever you re-purchased a non-consumable. Also fixes a crash with the warning pop-up.
  • Fixed Creator not able to be opened if GateKeeper was set to Mac App Store and identified developers. This now also applies to Release Candidate versions of Creator.
  • Fixed iPhone 6 and 6 Plus screen sizes not being detected correctly

Known Issue:

  • Screen rotation currently does not work in apps running on iOS 8. The app will launch in the correct orientation but the screen will not rotate with the device. This will be fixed in a future update.

Note:
To help clear things up here are the rules of thumb for using Resolution Independence. If your game is targeted for iOS Universal with assets for iPad Retina, you can try turning on RI. This will use the full sized images for iPad Retina and iPhone 6+. 2/3 sized images for iPhone Retina. and 1/3 sized images for devices that aren't actually supported anymore. If you are updating a game who's artwork is targeted towards iPhone Retina only, turn off RI so that images won't get resized. We have not implement User defined RI images on the server yet, so please don't explicitly include @3x or @2x images in your gameproj uploads.

Addressing Customer Issues with Arcade on Amazon Store

$
0
0

Hi all,

As many of you know, GameSalad has an ongoing relationship with Amazon to support our developer community and provide exclusive promotional opportunities. Our friends at Amazon have helped provide publishing incentives such as free PRO licenses, prizes and incentives for game jams while working with us to promote our developers and their games.

Some of these promotional opportunities recently involved publishing eligible GameSalad games to a GameSalad Arcade promotional channel on the Amazon store. Any of the games submitted during our recent game jams were part of this promotion. Many of the games on the GameSalad Arcade were also eligible. These games are free for Amazon users, and showcase what our community is doing with GameSalad. It’s a great opportunity to get exposure for GameSalad devs and show off their great work to a larger audience.

It turns out that we made a mistake in how we flagged eligible games in our database when we sent over a batch of files to Amazon. Some games that shouldn’t have been published were accidentally included. Yikes! It was never our intent to publish ineligible games and we’re sorry for anyone that was affected by this. We’re working with Amazon to take down any games that should not have been part of the promotion and they’ve offered to help expedite the process.

If you have a game that should not have been included in this promotion, please follow the instructions below to have your game removed.

Please accept our sincere apologies if you’ve been negatively affected by this mistake. We’ll get this resolved as soon as possible and will be extra diligent in the future to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Thanks!

Self Help Removal Instructions

In order to have your HTML5 apps removed from the Arcade channel on the Amazon store, please do the following:

  1. Visit the publishing portfolio page for your game and go to the Arcade/HTML5 configuration section. (If you have removed the game from your publishing portfolio, please send in a Support Request (http://support.gamesalad.com/#/help/website) and we will process the removal for you. For the field “Enter the URL address of the page” please enter the http://arcade.gamesalad.com page for your game.)
  2. Uncheck “Allow GameSalad to use my game for promotional purposes on third party sites and app stores.”
  3. As Amazon does not have an automated removal mechanism, it may take a little while to remove the games, though Amazon has agreed to help expedite the takedown process.

As an alternative to removal, you can create a “demo” version of your game for Arcade that points to your full game on Amazon. Let us know via support ticket when you have updated your game, and we will publish the update to Amazon.
